Urethane caulk around edges of tiles & where necessary
Asbestos tile, transite, and asbestos-reinforced cement panels were normally used as fire protection for roofs. Restoration with a fire-retardant coating is essential to maintain the function of these roofs. Asbestos-reinforced cements become brittle and lose strength due to the acid nature of rainwater and its chemical effect of pH reduction. A P.V.C./acrylic primer such as Polaprime 2 is necessary to seal the surface and increase its cohesive strength. A urethane caulk such as PSI 901 will seal around the edges of the tile or fill gaps between panel laps. Two coats of a fire-retardant roof coating such as Polaroof Firegard will complete the restoration of this type of roof, providing a waterproof, fire-retardant, flexible coating in a variety of colors.
