POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER is a 100% solids, 2-part reactive primer that is highly effective over steel and concrete. It mechanically locks into the surface to promote superior adhesion of the coatings to be applied. POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER is an industrial maintenance coating designed for harsh operation conditions.
Outstanding Features:
- Penetrates and seals the surface for maximum adhesion
- Removes substrate air pockets to prevent bubbles and pinholes
- Highly Newtonian viscosity for optimum coverage and penetration
- Rapid curing reduces dirt pickup and meteorological interruptions
- Gives maximum bond performance between substrate and topcoat
- Highly cost effective and performance designed
- Protects against saponification from alkaline substrates
- Encapsulates fibrous reinforcements
- Provides tack to grab trowelled overlays
- Improves adhesion of coatings to concrete, steel, and mineral composites

Application:
Caution! Read this entire data sheet before continuing.
Surfaces must be free of dirt, loose debris, oil, grease, or other substances that would interfere with bond. It is advisable to have the surface as dry as possible. All repairs of damage or defects must be made prior to coating. Steel should be sandblasted to SSPC SP10/NACE No. 2.
Add the ‘B’ side to the ‘A’ side and stir thoroughly for 3 minutes, then transfer to another container and stir again for 1 minute. Apply by roller or brush. Roller and brush techniques provide best penetration and performance results. For roller application, use a medium or short nap roller. For brush application, use a natural bristle brush. Apply the entire mixed batch of POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER so as to cover the surface. It is advisable to pour POLA– PRIME EPOXY PRIMER advisable to pour POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER straight onto the surface and spread with a squeegee prior to backrolling or brushing. Apply the appropriate surface coating as soon as possible after set to prevent contamination of the surface, ideally within 1 to 4 hours. If the POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER has been left exposed for more than 48 hours, the surface must be abraded thoroughly to remove shine and gloss and present a thoroughly rough surface. When applying an epoxy overlay or topping over the POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER, it should be still tacky so as to grab the paste and help spread an evenly trowelled thickness. Any polyurethane coating or membrane system should be applied as soon as the POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER is touch-dry. Application temperature must be above 50°F and surface temperature 5° above dewpoint. Concrete surfaces should be profiled minimum 4 mils according to SSPC SP13/NACE No. 6 and the surface temperature declining.
Limitations:
Do not apply POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER if the temperature is predicted to drop below 50°F within 4 hours of completion of application. Do not apply POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER to saturated surfaces or concrete subject to hydrostatic pressure. Do not apply if rain is forecast within 4 hours of completion of application.
Maintenance:
If an area becomes damaged, remove loose substrate and coating and clean the damaged area. Repair the substrate and re-prime, then topcoat with a Coating and clean the damaged area. Repair the substrate and re-prime, then topcoat with a finish coating to match the surrounding area.
Precautions:
Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact with skin, wash with soap and water for 15 minutes. For contact with eyes, immediately flush with water for 15 minutes and get medical attention in addition to flushing. Do not ingest. If ingested, do NOT induce vomiting and contact a physician immediately.
Wear safety goggles, rubber gloves, and coveralls when applying this primer.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
