WEARCOAT 66

Protective Topcoat. Aggregate Encapsulation. Long-Term Performance.

WEARCOAT 66 is a coating engineered as a durable protective topcoat for functional substrates in demanding environments. It delivers a tough, glossy, and chemically resistant finish while effectively encapsulating aggregates to enhance traction, surface performance, and long-term durability.

Ideal for use over waterproofing systems and composite materials, WEARCOAT 66 provides both protection and aesthetics by locking in broadcast aggregates and forming a resilient, long-lasting wearing surface suitable for pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Formulated for versatility and performance, WEARCOAT 66 is designed to protect and extend the service life of urethane systems, polyester composites, concrete, masonry, and other approved substrates. Available in clear or pigmented finishes, it offers excellent color retention, UV resistance, and high tensile strength.

As a topcoat, it forms a flexible yet highly abrasion-resistant film that withstands heavy use, environmental exposure, and chemical contact, while fully encapsulating a wide range of aggregates—including sharp, angular materials—for reliable traction-enhanced systems.

Available in 24 standard colors, with custom color matching upon request.

Key Benefits

  • Aggregate Encapsulation
Effectively locks in rough, angular aggregates for durable traction systems.
  • Protective Topcoat Performance
Shields underlying substrates and waterproofing systems from wear and damage.
  • Tough, Flexible Film
Cures to a durable, abrasion-resistant surface that accommodates movement and thermal stress.
  • Traction Enhancement
Ideal for slip-resistant finishes in both pedestrian and vehicular areas.
  • Chemical Resistance
Resists staining, deterioration, and chemical exposure.
  • Long-Term Aesthetic Appeal
Maintains a clean, attractive appearance with excellent color stability.
  • Easy Maintenance
Smooth, cleanable surface that withstands regular washing and scrubbing.
  • Versatile Finish Options
Available in a wide range of colors and textures to meet project requirements.

WEARCOAT 66 Application Guide

Surface Preparation

  • All surfaces must be clean, dry, and completely free of loose particles, oil, grease, or any contaminants that may interfere with proper adhesion.
  • When applying over previously painted surfaces, verify compatibility in advance, as some coatings may bleed color or be affected by solvents.

Application

Add Part B (color concentrate) to Part A (clear resin) and mix thoroughly with a low-speed power mixer for a minimum of 3 minutes.

WEARCOAT 66 is applied at a rate of approximately 400 square feet per gallon per coat. Apply using a brush, roller, or airless spray in a thin, even coat.

For enhanced traction, incorporate vulcanized synthetic rubber granules such as SoftSand Rubber. This may be applied using broadcast or mix-in methods, depending on the desired texture. Typical application rate is 1–2 pints per 100 square feet.

After the first coat has dried with the embedded aggregate, apply a second coat of WEARCOAT 66 to fully encapsulate the material.

Recommended Thickness

Approximately 3 mils dry film thickness (DFT) per coat.

Working Time

Approximately 3 hours at 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity.

Drying Time

Approximately 1.5 hours at 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity.

Cure Time

Approximately 24 hours at 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity.

Clean-Up

Clean tools and equipment with toluene or xylene while the material is still wet.

Limitations

  • Store in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. Keep containers tightly sealed, as exposure to moisture may cause premature curing.
  • Do not apply at temperatures below 35°F (2°C). Application must be protected from precipitation for at least 4 hours.
  • Shelf life is approximately 12 months when stored in original, sealed containers between 45°F (7°C) and 85°F (29°C).
