POLACAV

Industrial Protective Coating. Cavitation & Impact Resistance.

POLACAV is a high-performance industrial protective coating designed for metal, plastic, and composite surfaces exposed to fluid flow, impact, and cavitation. This solvent-based, single-component system delivers permanent flexibility and toughness, forming a resilient protective membrane that bridges hairline cracks and withstands severe service conditions.

Engineered for use in demanding hydraulic and industrial environments, POLACAV provides exceptional adhesion—even underwater—and protects surfaces from the destructive effects of cavitation, erosion, and impact fatigue. It is widely used in the repair and protection of turbines, propellers, pumps, chutes, flumes, grates, and tanks where long-term durability is critical.

Its user-friendly application and tolerance to less-than-ideal conditions make it a reliable solution for both maintenance and new construction, while its rapid curing properties help minimize downtime.

Available in 24 standard colors, with custom color matching upon request.

Key Benefits

  • Cavitation Protection
Shields surfaces from erosion and damage caused by fluid-induced cavitation.
  • Impact & Fatigue Resistance
Withstands repeated mechanical stress and high-impact operating conditions.
  • Underwater Adhesion
Maintains strong bonding performance in wet, humid, and submerged environments.
  • Flexible, Crack-Bridging Film
Accommodates movement while sealing hairline cracks and surface imperfections.
  • Rapid Cure & Strength Development
Sets quickly to reduce downtime and accelerate return to service.
  • Erosion Resistance
Performs reliably under abrasive, high-velocity, and turbid flow conditions.
  • Thermal Cycling Stability
Resists fatigue and coating failure caused by rapid temperature fluctuations.
  • Recoat-Friendly
Can be reapplied without abrasive blasting in many maintenance applications.
  • Biologically Inert
Will not leach harmful substances into surrounding environments.
  • Application Tolerant
Performs consistently even under challenging or less-than-ideal field conditions.
  • Improved Wet Traction
Enhances surface grip and safety in continuously wet service environments.

POLACAV Application Guideline

Surface Preparation

  • Surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free of loose debris, dirt, oil, grease, or any contaminants that may interfere with proper adhesion.
  • All substrate repairs must be completed prior to the application of POLACAV.
  • Worn steel surfaces may be restored using a machinable epoxy. Concrete surfaces may be repaired with Polafloor Epoxy Topping and Polajoint. Fiberglass-reinforced polyester and other plastic substrates may be repaired using Polafab with Polaprime Epoxy or Andek 950.

Application

POLACAV may be applied directly from the container after mixing for at least 2 minutes using a low-speed power mixer.

Apply by brush or roller in two smooth, even coats to achieve approximately 15 mils wet film thickness per coat.

Allow the first coat to dry adequately before applying the second coat.

Spray Application

Use a 45:1 airless pump with a 1/2″ hose, 3/4″ whip, and a 31 tip size.

Clean-Up

Clean tools and equipment with xylene or toluene before the material begins to dry.

Limitations

  • Do not apply to wet, damp, or frozen surfaces. Proper surface preparation and priming, where required, are essential for optimal product performance.
  • The surface temperature must remain at least 5°F (3°C) above the dew point during application and curing.
  • Shelf life is approximately 2 years when stored indoors in factory-sealed containers.
  • This product is combustible. Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames. Use only explosion-proof (EP-rated) equipment.
