Description
POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER
High-Performance 100% Solids Epoxy Primer for Maximum Adhesion & Surface Sealing
POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER is a 100% solids, two-component reactive epoxy primer engineered to provide exceptional adhesion, durability, and surface consolidation. Designed for use over steel, concrete, and mineral-based substrates, it mechanically and chemically bonds to the surface to create a strong foundation for subsequent coating systems.
Formulated for industrial maintenance and harsh service environments, POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER penetrates deeply into the substrate, sealing pores and locking into surface irregularities. This results in improved coating performance, reduced defect formation, and long-term system stability.
Its high-performance formulation enhances bond strength between substrate and topcoat systems, making it a critical component in demanding protective coating assemblies.

POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER Application Guideline
Surface Preparation
- Surfaces must be clean and free of dirt, loose debris, oil, grease, or any contaminants that may interfere with proper adhesion.
- A dry substrate is preferred. All repairs of damage or defects must be completed prior to coating.
- Steel surfaces should be abrasive blasted to SSPC-SP10 / NACE No. 2. Concrete surfaces should be profiled minimum 4 mils according to SSPC SP13/NACE No. 6 and the surface temperature declining.
Application
Add Part B to Part A and mix thoroughly for 3 minutes using a low-speed power mixer.
Apply using brush or roller techniques for best penetration and performance. A medium or short nap roller is recommended for roller application. A natural bristle brush is recommended for brush application.
Apply the entire mixed batch of POLAPRIME EPOXY PRIMER to achieve full surface coverage. The material may be poured directly onto the substrate and spread using a squeegee prior to backrolling or brushing for uniform distribution.
Apply the specified subsequent coating as soon as possible after initial set to prevent surface contamination, ideally within 1 to 4 hours.
If the primer is exposed for more than 48 hours, the surface must be thoroughly abraded to remove gloss and restore a suitable profile.
For epoxy overlays or toppings, apply while the primer is still tacky to promote bonding and improve leveling. Polyurethane coatings or membrane systems should be applied once the primer is tack-free.
Application temperature must be above 50°F (10°C), and substrate temperature must remain at least 5°F (3°C) above the dew point. Surface temperatures should be stable or decreasing during application.
Clean-Up
Clean tools and equipment with xylene or toluene before the material cures.
Limitations
- Do not apply if temperatures are expected to fall below 50°F (10°C) within 4 hours of completion.
- Do not apply to saturated surfaces or concrete subject to hydrostatic pressure.
- Do not apply if rain is forecast within 4 hours of completion.
